A Review of Reactor Designs for Hydrogen Storage in Clathrate Hydrates

نویسندگان

چکیده

Clathrate hydrates are ice-like, crystalline solids, composed of a three-dimensional network hydrogen bonded water molecules that confines gas in well-defined cavities can store gases as solid solution. Ideally, with maximum theoretical capacity about 5.4 wt%. However, the pressures necessary for formation such hydrate 180–220 MPa and therefore too high large-scale plants industrial use. Thus, since early 1990s, there have been numerous studies to optimize pressure temperature conditions storage develop proper reactor type via optimisation heat mass transfer maximise resulting phase. So far, construction has developed small, sub-litre scale; indeed, many attempts were reported pilot-scale design, on multiple-litre scale larger. The purpose this review article is compile summarise knowledge single highlight hydrogen-storage prospects future challenges.

Raman spectroscopic studies of hydrogen clathrate hydrates.

Raman spectroscopic measurements of simple hydrogen and tetrahydrofuran+hydrogen sII clathrate hydrates have been performed. Both the roton and vibron bands illuminate interesting quantum dynamics of enclathrated H(2) molecules. The complex vibron region of the Raman spectrum has been interpreted by observing the change in population of these bands with temperature, measuring the absolute H(2) ...

Multiple guest occupancy in clathrate hydrates and its significance in hydrogen storage.

We report a new concept of structural transformation combined with tuning phenomena which together result in a significant increase in the hydrogen storage capacity in an icy material. It is necessary to investigate the use of a fully water-soluble structure H (sH) former so as to observe how hydrogen molecules are stably loaded into hydrate cages.

Clathrate hydrogen hydrate--a promising material for hydrogen storage.

Hydrogen is viewed as a promising clean fuel of the future. A low-cost hydrogen storage technology that provides a high storage capacity and fast kinetics is a critical factor in the development of a hydrogen economy for transportation. The technologies to store hydrogen can be classified into three types: compression, liquefaction, and storage in a solid material. 2] Compressing hydrogen requi...

Clathrate hydrates in nature.

Scientific knowledge of natural clathrate hydrates has grown enormously over the past decade, with spectacular new findings of large exposures of complex hydrates on the sea floor, the development of new tools for examining the solid phase in situ, significant progress in modeling natural hydrate systems, and the discovery of exotic hydrates associated with sea floor venting of liquid CO2. Majo...

On the thermodynamic stability of hydrogen clathrate hydrates.

The cage occupancy of hydrogen clathrate hydrate has been examined by grand canonical Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulations for wide ranges of temperature and pressure. The simulations are carried out with a fixed number of water molecules and a fixed chemical potential of the guest species so that hydrogen molecules can be created or annihilated in the clathrate. Two types of the GCMC simulations are...
